  • Deborah Byrne

Born and raised in the wonderful Yorkshire, surrounded by hills and greenery which has stayed within her soul and still resonant today in her work.

Byrne studied general Art & Design at Huddersfield technical college, moving onto Wolverhampton University to complete a degree in ceramics and 3D design. During this period her focus was on hand building, surface pattern and glazing techniques.

The years following her degree were spent travelling, spending long periods of time in India, Nepal and Thailand. Hanging out in the potteries in Rajasthan continues to inspire Deborah’s work today. She has experimented with many firing techniques and materials including firing pots with cow dung.

Currently a full time ceramicist working from her court yard studio, based in Staffordshire. Byrne is still heavily influenced by surface pattern, texture and colour producing functional ware for the home. Working in stoneware, high fired clay and finishing with gold lustres, continually developing and pushing her own boundaries to produce exciting work. Byrne’s work is unique in using a combination of hand building with thrown pieces and fusing both techniques to produce larger pieces.
